First Time Trying Tigernut Cereal, Enjoyed the Texture More Than the Value

This was my first time trying tigernut root cereal, and overall it was an interesting experience with a few clear pros and cons. The first thing I noticed, and something other reviewers have mentioned, is how small the bag looks inside the box. The outer packaging feels oversized, which stood out to me given the brand’s emphasis on clean, eco-conscious ingredients. That said, the weight itself is accurate. I actually weighed my bag, and it came in slightly over the listed amount at 246.1 grams, or about 8.68 oz. So while the packaging presentation feels inefficient, the contents themselves are honest.Flavor-wise, this is very subtle, which makes sense given that there’s no added sugar. The honey vanilla note is very light and natural, not sweet or dessert-like. If you’re used to traditional cereals, this may taste bland at first, but I found it pleasant once I adjusted my expectations. The texture and flavor lean more earthy and nutty, closer to a mild oatmeal or porridge than a crunchy cereal.What stood out most for me is how filling it is. Tigernut root is high in fiber and resistant starch, and that really shows here. A small serving goes a long way, and I stayed full for a surprisingly long time after eating it. I found it more sustaining than many grain-based cereals, especially for breakfast. It also sits well in the stomach, which I appreciated.At $12.50 for an 8.5 oz bag, this is firmly in premium territory. Compared to other gluten-free or grain-free cereals, the price feels high, even factoring in the clean ingredient list and satiety. I like the product itself, but it’s something I’d treat as an occasional specialty item rather than a pantry staple unless it were priced lower.

Clean ingredients and pleasant taste… but still raises some concerns

This cereal had a pleasant taste and smell; the honey vanilla flavor is light and not overpowering. We tried it tonight as a family and even my picky eater finished her dish and thought they were good. It only contains three ingredients, which is pretty impressive for a shelf stable cereal to be so “clean” and minimally processed.While I understand that there are sometimes legal requirements for manufacturers to disclose that ingredients could be contaminated and it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are, it did make me feel uneasy as someone who is trying to have another baby that the box says it could contain cadmium. Cadmium is known to be a reproductive toxin that none of us wants in our bodies. I did some research and tiger nuts are sometimes contaminated naturally in the environment depending on where and how they are sourced. While I understand that tiger nuts can be beneficial to our health, especially to our digestive systems, it’s not worth the risk for me to consume them regularly when there are other nutritionally rich ingredients out there that could be used instead.While items like cereal can of course settle after packaging, I thought that the bag being only about half full was rather ridiculous for the price. Yes, this is a health food item that of course should be expected to cost more than a sugary processed counterpart with few nutritional benefits, but there are other nutritious cereals out there that are half the price and don’t run the risk of containing contaminants.

Tasty cereal with real honey taste

Delicious! My first time eating tiger-nut. A great healthier cereal alternative if you are looking for something with less ingredients and no chemicals. The cereal only has 4 ingredients: Tiger nut root flour, rice flour, organic spray honey, and natural flavors. There’s only 4 grams of sugar. However, this not a low carbohydrate food since it’s 36 grams per serving. It does have a sweet “nut” and natural honey taste to it. Something the kids will love. The cereal can work for adults too. If you are an adult watching carbs, eating it like a snack in moderation can work. I might consider trying the original version.

Tastes good and more natural

Picked this up because I wanted a gluten free option that wasn’t just another ultra sweet corn or rice thing. The tigernut base is solid. Texture is very similar to Cheerios, maybe a little denser, and it holds up fine in milk without turning to mush right away.Flavor wise it’s lightly honey forward. I saw vanilla mentioned somewhere but I honestly don’t taste that at all. Not a bad thing. It’s mildly sweet, not dessert cereal sweet, which is probably why I keep eating it instead of getting sick of it halfway through the bowl. My dad tried it and said it tastes better than Cheerios, which surprised me but I kind of agree.Big plus for me is it doesn’t mess with my stomach and doesn’t feel like eating cardboard pretending to be healthy. Also nice that tigernut is technically not a nut, so allergy wise it’s been fine here.Downsides: price is a little high for what it is, and if you’re expecting bold flavor you’ll probably think it’s boring. This is more of an everyday, not trying too hard cereal.Overall, it does what it says, tastes good, and doesn’t overpromise. That’s enough for me to keep it in rotation. 👍

Healthy, Tasty & Simple 3 Ingredients - $$$ If You're On A Modest Budget!

First and foremost, I believe in being straightforward and honest in my reviews, so I’ll start by saying that if I were not an Amazon Vine shopper, I would not have purchased this cereal given the price.With that said, here is my honest assessment of the product itself. I’ve been eating cereal for dinner nearly every Wednesday night for the past 40 years (it’s my guilty pleasure). I’ve never been a fan of overly sweet cereals, and as a diabetic, the fact that this cereal has no added sugar was especially appealing to me. While it has the familiar “O” shape, it doesn’t taste like the traditional O-shaped cereals many of us grew up with. Instead, it has a mild, slightly nutty sweetness and doesn’t loudly announce, “I’m healthier than what you’re used to.” I also found it to be a bit crunchier than both name-brand and generic O-shaped cereals, which I enjoyed. I tried it with both 0% fat cow’s milk and oat milk, and it held up well with both.The box arrived opened, though the inner cereal package was intact. Delivery took a few weeks, but since this wasn’t something I urgently needed, the wait didn’t bother me.As for the price, I’ll reiterate that I personally would not spend this much $ on an 8.5-ounce bag of cereal, regardless of how healthy the ingredients are. That said, the producer is transparent about the size, so I strongly encourage prospective buyers to read the product description carefully before purchasing. I’ve never bought a high-end, zero-sugar cereal before, so I can’t say whether this price point is standard.If you can afford it and are looking for a simple, three-ingredient, zero-sugar cereal, you may want to give this a try. If you’re on a modest budget, as they say, that’s a horse of a different color.
